Alexander Junichi Watanabe, 88, of Honokaa, died May 27 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honuapo, Ka‘u, he was a retired cultivation supervisor for Hamakua Sugar Co.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. June 7 at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Shinayo Watanabe, of Honokaa; son, Calvin (Charlotte) Watanabe, of Ahualoa; daughters, Mary Ann Spaulding, of Kailua-Kona, Judi (Brian) Hayenga, of Lake Forest, Calif.; sisters, Tamae (Robert) Iwamoto and Fujie (Shigeru) Fujimoto, both of Honokaa, Harumi (Joseph) DeMello, of Makakilo, Oahu; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
